MTV Bans Kanye West “Monster” Video

Saturday, March 05 2011 11:19 AM EST | Posted by: Amaya | Posted in: BlogTrue Story
Kanye West’s “Monster” was no match for the suits at MTV. The network responded to feminine activists Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard’s petition and agreed not to air the video. The clip leaked onto the ‘net last December.
“The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women,” said Reist, one of the campaign originators. “Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorize misogyny and brutalize women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.”

Lupe Fiasco’s Suicidal Thoughts

Friday, March 04 2011 5:37 PM EST | Posted by: Big Homie | Posted in: BlogTop 5 Posts,True Story
As you already know, B.o.B.’s chart topper “Nothin On You” was intially intended for Lupe Fiasco. Lu told UK’s The Guardian, that after his version did not live to the label’s expectations, he contemplated offing himself or calling it quits.
“That was the tipping point. It was less about the bruised ego but more the audacity of it. It was mentally destructive. I say it with a certain laissez-faire now because I’m past it, but back then, hearin’ that s**t, it f**ked me up. I was super-depressed, lightly suicidal, at moments medium suicidal – and if not suicidal, willing to just walk away from it all completely.”
